Antibes from Cannes — Port Day Guide
Ramparts, Picasso and a yacht-filled port — the Riviera gem just 15 minutes west of Cannes.
Antibes is the easiest Riviera escape west from Cannes — 15 minutes by road along the coast, with a walled old town, one of the Mediterranean's finest markets and ramparts that survey yachts and fishing boats alike. It pairs naturally with Nice on a full-day westward excursion or stands alone on a focused half-day.
The old town sits inside 16th-century ramparts built by Vauban. Walk the walls for harbour views, then descend into narrow lanes where the Marché Provençal bursts with colour on weekday mornings. The Picasso Museum occupies the Grimaldi Castle where the artist worked in 1946 — one of the Riviera's essential art stops.
Fort Carré guards the peninsula at the port entrance — a star-shaped fortress with panoramic views. Cap d'Antibes coastal path, west of town, offers a gentler walk through pine shade above hidden coves, though time constraints on port days usually limit this to a drive-by.
Antibes anchors our French Riviera Highlights excursion and the Family Riviera Day for passengers who prefer short transfers over the long haul east to Monaco. Allow 2–3 hours in town on a standalone visit.
Getting to Antibes from Gare Maritime
By taxi or tour vehicle, Antibes is 15 minutes west along the coast road. TER regional trains run from Cannes to Antibes in about 10 minutes, but factor 20–30 minutes for terminal exit and station access. On a port day, pre-booked transfer or an organised excursion removes schedule uncertainty.
Return from Antibes to Gare Maritime takes 15–20 minutes by road. If continuing to Nice, allow 20–30 minutes further west. Build 60 minutes buffer before all-aboard on any westward day trip.
